Going Vegetarian in Downtown Walla Walla

You’re in Walla Walla for the weekend, walking downtown -- taking in the sights, visiting the shops and tasting the wine. Your stomach starts to grumble, but -- you’re a vegetarian. So where to eat?

Not to worry. Let a local vegetarian take you on a journey through some of the best meatless dishes downtown.

  1. Marcy’s Bar and Lounge

Marcy’s is a little white building on the corner of Colville and Alder, with lots of history and incredible food and cocktails. The Hippie ($13+tax) is a falafel sandwich on locally sourced ciabatta bread with house-made hummus, mixed greens, pepperoncinis, tomatoes, pickled cucumbers and feta cheese.

This sandwich will never leave you wanting more -- it is both light and filling.

While you’re at Marcy’s, be sure to grab a signature cocktail, or ask the bartender to whip you up something delicious!

2. YAMAS Greek Eatery

YAMAS is new to the Walla Walla Valley, branching off of a formerly established Greek eatery in Moscow, Idaho. Transport your taste buds to the Balkan Peninsula with their delicious and flavorful falafel options. When ordering, you have the option of getting a falafel wrap, salad, rice bowl or plate. Each varies in price ($8.50-15.50) and portion, but are all equally fantastic.

When finished, don’t forget to try their baklava, the sweet treat you won’t be able to get enough of.

3. Bacon & Eggs

Finding a good meatless, savory breakfast is often quite the task. Bacon & Eggs sports two of my favorite vegetarian breakfast options.

The Chilaquiles ($11) is a Mexican-inspired dish with all the protein and veggies you need for the day. (Pro-tip, add avocado to it!)

Their Vegetarian Benedict ($13) is also to die for -- a gourmet breakfast dish with creamy house made hollandaise sauce, sliced tomato, and pesto for a special twist on the popular dish.

Snag some food and a mimosa on any day of the week, and make your morning that much better.

4. Stone Soup cafe

Stone Soup is an absolute must, especially if you are craving homestyle soup and sandwiches. Each of their many menu items has a vegetarian substitute — and have several great vegetarian options such as the Veggie Supreme sandwich, the Veggie Burger and the Haystack (taco salad).

My go-to? A toasted bagel with two eggs, mayonnaise, avocado, tomato, provolone cheese with vegetarian bacon. If you’re feeling extra hungry, grab a bowl of the vegetarian enchilada soup ($4.75) to go with it. Delicious.

(Each order comes with a free house made cookie in the bag too -- indulge your sweet tooth!)

5. Red Monkey

When it comes to the Mean Veggie Wrap ($10.50) at Red Monkey, all I have to say is YUM.

You wouldn’t think right off the bat that this’d be so filling, but this monster of a wrap is sure to keep you satisfied. The wrap boasts mixed greens, pepperoncinis, tomatoes, olives, sprouts, avocados and mushrooms served with your choice of dressing on the side. (Their ranch is to die for.)

Another delicious vegetarian option? The Hipster Panini ($12)! Full of deliciousness, this sandwich is packed with avocado, tomato, provolone, sprouts, and a roasted tomato spread.

Pair either with a local beer or cider on tap!

There’s no question about it — Walla Walla has good food. And it’s not limited to meat-eating folk!

These are just a few of many delicious options. There are plenty of delicious vegetarian options in town at places such as Soi 71, Sweet Basil, The Olive, Shiki Hibachi Sushi, Walla Walla Indian Cuisine, Maple Counter, Graze, Walla Walla Bread Co. and so many more!
