Five Walla Walla Reds to Keep You Warm All Winter Long!

Cold weather is here and that calls for fuzzy sweater, cozy fires and lots of red wine! There’s so much good wine in the Walla Walla Valley that sometimes it’s hard to know where to start! Here’s five of our current favorite local reds; we promise this is the best way to warm up this season!

  1. Rotie Cellars’ Northern Blend: 100% estate grown; this beautiful Walla Walla wine is 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier. From the Rocks region of Walla Walla, the Northern Blend is deep, dark and earthy. It exhibits aromas of violet and bacon fat. On the palate, soft black fruits with velvety tannins and dark chocolate deliver a voluptuous and complex texture. Pair this with braised beef or an aged Gouda for a match made in heaven. $48, available on their website.

2. The Walls Vineyards’ Grenache: Deliciously drinkable, we can’t get enough of this red blend. The Grenache grapes were sourced from the River Rock Vineyard in the Rocks District of Milton Freewater, farmed with great passion by Dana Dibble, a [third generation] grower of fruit there. It carries strong hints of strawberry fruits as well as notes of leafy herbs, pepper, and dried earth. $56 a bottle, available for purchase on their website.

3. Spring Valley Vineyard’s Uriah: The most terrior driven blend made by Spring Valley; this rich wine has velvety tannins and the finish is long and soft. Black cherry and herbacious notes make this wine perfect for paring with lamb skewers, seared duck breast, or pasta with lentils. $60 a bottle, purchase it on their website.

4. Devium’s French Creek Vineyard Red Wine: This 2018 vintage sees the highest percentage of Syrah yet in the French Creek Red. This leads to an overall darker profile, the wine is mysterious and deep while maintaining the freshness and lightness of touch. This wine is perfect for sipping by the fire all winter long. 5. Dunham Cellars’ Trutina: A beautiful Bordeaux style blend, this wine opens with aromas of black currant, cherry and cola with touches of vanilla, pepper spice and cedar.
